We are made to dream, to think like paper kites, to fly.
We are made to dance, swim and play ball, to sing a new song.
We are made to be children of the world, butterfly of tomorrow to run through the mirror and the forest, unannounced,
gaze at the horizons, a clip of our imagination.
We are made to dream.
A dream, any dream, that dream in the corner of the tree, in the swing set on a backyard, in the playground of the paper mill.
A dream is inexpensive. It is colorless. It has no boundaries or covers
but it speaks,
it leaves marks and unaccounted stains
endless driveways.
It is gratis.
Dream then!

Back When I Was a Child

I could not wait to get older. I now, sometimes, wish I was a kid again.
My mom made sure I knew my A’s from B’s.
We had toys, games and riding my bicycle was my heaven on earth.
We actually knew our neighbor’s names.
When I knew I was going to get a whooping, I would run out faster before I could scream, run!
People broke crayons and not hearts.
Rock & Roll was the thing.
The birds I used to draw look like flying mustaches.
I did not have to worry about owning the newest technology.
We had to rewind the VHS and not just skip to a scene.
I thought dust bunnies were a real animal.
I climbed on the trees, played with boys and somehow it was alright.
I would have never imagined that I would be where I am today.
Internet? What was that?!
Life was so much simpler!

Life Made Simple

Sao Tome, Sao Tome and Principe

The simple life. Life is who you are, what you create, what you become. Life is creativity, what you live and how you present it. It is what you dance to, what makes you, what makes scream the most. It is not about what you can’t have but what you don’t have. It doesn’t take much to make a kid happy, all he/she needs is a toy and if you don’t have one, you create one. You make one out whatever you can find and then zig zag through the hood. It is life, it is what drives you, what becomes you, what makes you happy, a toy made of wire and wood. This beautiful expression of “leve leve”, meaning slow, unhurried definition of an happy and simple childhood emblemises the islands of Sao Tome and Principe in Africa. Yes, life made simple.
