Art Basel 2014

Every year, I religiously make the pilgrimage to the annual Super Bowl of the art world, Art Basel Miami Beach. For those not familiar with the show, it is a display of galleries from all over the world showing sculptures, paintings, prints, photography, installations, videos by world-renowned artists such as Picasso and new artists alike. As an artist and a fervent art lover, it is a honor and a privilege, a day of obligation and a must attend, an appreciation of other’s work and a little “I am checking you out to see what you got” of sorts, to attend the gathering. Luckily, I don’t have to travel far as exercising patience is paramount on the streets leading up to the event but in the end, it is immaterial, as the joy one gets supersedes all the migraine and more. It is that worth it.

I never get to adventure to Art Miami or Miami Design and many others. I should. I am sure they are as great but Art Basel caterpillars it all. It is the emblem. As many times as I have been to the show, you would think that I am done being surprised but I always find myself saying, “Oh wow. Whoa.” and then “Oh, I can do this. My work is better. Is this art? Huh?!” Price tag, who needs to know? It is not for the faint of heart. It is creativity in motion. Enjoy!

Knucklehead Of The Week

20130607_125459Now, this one falls right there in the category of What Were You Thinking or Things I Would Not Be Caught Doing. Yes, it does but this South Florida and all bets are off. Nothing comes as a surprise.

No, I am no paparazzi nor play one on TV but just can’t understand this as often as it happens to the frustration of many. Even if in a hurry, I would have parked my car in a corner somewhere, away from the traffic or wait a few seconds, perhaps God was telling him something like, “if you leave now you may break your leg if you leave right at this moment…”, but Mr did not care. He wasn’t listening. He left his car right there, blocking everyone. Touche! Forget about the person who wanted to exit. Forget about the person who wanted to pass. Forget about the person who wanted to park.

20130607_125527And the honking session begins. Who is listening?

20130607_125601Then suddenly he is out, without a care in the world, not even an apology.

20130607_125604Gets into his car and drives away. Happy Friday to you too Mr.!

The Sky This Morning

20130522_075949I celebrated a milestone back in 2010. I am not going to say how many candles I celebrated but found myself on a beach in St. Petersburg, Florida with a few friends, some I had just met the day before through a mutual friend, when I had planned to have this big ole shindig with all the invitees dressed in sky blue attire and bare feet, decor to mirror a wedding, mermaids falling from the sky, Maroon 5 or Prince playing the sound and everyone just having a great time. Oh well, that was just a dream but what a girl to do then dream?! It is cheap and you don’t have to pay a dime.

As I strolled down the beach, enjoying the weather and what mother nature had to offer, I crossed paths with this elderly lady who resorted to asking me a few liners after she learned she was not being photographed, “have you ever noticed that not all the clouds are the same?” Humm, great question. Never noticed, I replied. “Have you ever seen a website or a magazine dedicated solely to clouds?” Again, my answer was no. Perhaps, there is one but personally, aside from the National Geographic magazine publishing one picture here and there, I am yet to see a periodical totally dedicated to it. So, no.

20130522_080026_2Funny how things work. I found myself from that point on, kinda consumed, paying attention to every little cloud in the sky, photographing, cataloging them daily which I hope to publish soon. Call it geek or whatever you want, trust me when I say that it is a lot fun, specially when you take a few minutes to gaze and witness them metamorphosing, it is one cool phenomenon… exhale!

P.S. These pictures were taken with my cell phone hence the quality but they look great I might add.
