Irma’s Wrath

So, we survived Irma. It could have been worse but with God’s grace it wasn’t. We are grateful and blessed. Down trees, some leak, luckily we never lost power or the internet but cell phone communication misbehaved. My house looks like a zoo. Cleaning up has been a production just like setting up. Taking everything from inside back outside and after being outside chopping off the trees, didn’t realize we had that many, and cleaning the backyard, breaking a sweat took on a whole other meaning, free cardio. Now, back to regularly scheduled program!

Counting Blessings

Assisi, Italy

The time you realize it hasn’t been that bad, they have quietly been walking by you all along. Life takes you through roads, harsh pavements and broken glasses. You ride a bicycle, bus, train, take the helicopter, subway. You parachute down the open skies and land on top of an earthquake. You drive a car through endless highways, bake that perfect cake, peak through the window to seeing only one dope of combustible cocktail, a blank paper in the open vent. When the revolving door keeps going, non stop, all seem so bleak. You find yourself asking the universe up stairs to mend fences, find you that perfect corner to rid away your soul, to waking up from a drunken stupor stage to small dots of blessings bundled in one perfect bouquet. Yes, I am awake after all. It is Friday and the weekend folks. Many blessings to you. Let the church say Amen!

Heaven Is a Breath of Fresh Air

Shrine of Schoenstatt, Homestead, FL

I went to an annual “feel good” field trip of sorts with my Sisters in Christ, women of different ages, ethnicities and backgrounds blended in perfect harmony, for a meeting of the minds and recharge of soul, at the littlest of shrines I have ever seen in my life, the Shrine of Schoenstatt. No, it is not a chapel or a church but a shrine and as per the name indicates, it is a Catholic movement originated in Germany.

The little piece of heaven is a breath of fresh air, located in the middle of a rural agricultural area with many nurseries, surrounded by flowers, fruits and plants and birds. It is the most tranquil, beautiful, spiritual and peaceful area to walk around considering its location. A great place for those looking to relax, quiet meditation and much needed prayer.

Two days later, we were at it again, at one of the sister’s home recharging our spiritual batteries.

The burdens were written two months ago during the church annual festival. They were our constant “companion” during our bible study meetings, with some even taking them home for additional graces but then after much spiritual exercises and prayers, one by one to the fire they went, two baskets full.
